Moelwyn cottage was named after my late grandad who used to live in the cottage while helping on the farm. Port Edgar Farm, named after Lieutenant Thomas Edgar who surveyed the Falklands in 1786-87, was owned by Charles Henry Williams until 1874 when he got in debt to George Markham Dean who took Port Edgar from Charles Henry Williams as payment (worth £5,000). The land then become part of Port Stephens which was owned by Dean. In 1945 Dean sold Port Stephens to the Falkland Islands Company. Port Edgar Farm was purchased by my dad (Tex) who was working at Port Stephens when Port Stephens was split up in 1988.
The old stone shearing shed was built circa 1890. In 1889 there were 9 people living at Port Edgar there were 3 house and a store.
When Charles owned Port Edgar it was 70640 acres. The farm area is now 16,000 hectares (40,000 acres). We now run 6,500 sheep that are bread for their wool.
